The following biostatistical and data management services are available:
1. Contribute methodological services to individual research projects from protocol development to project finalization in the following areas:
- Specify the research questions/hypothesis in more specific statistical terms
- Identify and define outcome measures and measurement instruments (validated or not)
- Identify appropriate study design for the research question
- Review formalization of procedures – study population, sample selection, inclusion/exclusion criteria, randomization procedures, blinding/masking procedures etc.
- Advise on statistical analysis strategies and alternatives
- Perform sample size calculations
- Advise on design of data collection instruments
- Interpretation and presentation of statistical results
- Reviewing statistical sections of grant proposals or scientific papers
2. Increasing biostatistical knowledge and building research capacity through
- Teaching undergraduate programs in the FMHS
- Teaching postgraduate programs in the FMHS
- Developing and establish a master's degree in Biostatistics
- Supervising and mentoring postgraduate degree students
- Short courses and seminars which will be accredited for continuing professional development points
